Bolts Swept in Doubleheader

FLORENCE, KY – The Windy City ThunderBolts were swept in a doubleheader against the Florence Y’alls on Wednesday night at Y’alls Ballpark. In game one, the Bolts (29-38) lost in extra innings, 5-4. In game two, Florence (41-26) captured a 4-1 win.

Game one was highlighted by two-run innings. The Bolts grabbed the first lead in the third inning. Payton Robertson blasted a two-run homer to open the scoring in the third.

The Y’alls responded with a two-run third and two-run fourth to take the lead. All four runs were scored on two-out singles. In the third, Chad Sedio and Trevor Craport singled in back-to-back at bats. In the fourth, Harrison DiNicola and Taylor Bryant had consecutive singles.

The Bolts battled back to tie the game in the sixth, despite no hits in the inning. Two hit batters, two errors and two runs later, the game was evened at four runs apiece.

Jairus Richards and Dan Robinson reached and attempted a double steal. The throw went to second and escaped to right-center field, allowing Richards to score. Later in the inning, Rob Weissheier tied the game with a sacrifice fly.

The game went into extra innings and the Bolts failed to score with the automatic runner at second base. In the bottom of the eighth, three walks led to the winning run crossing the plate.

Kyle Johnson (2-1) took the loss, recording only one out in the bottom of the eighth. Joe Dougherty (2-0) earned the win with two scoreless relief innings.

In game two, the Bolts again led first. Jairus Richards collected an RBI groundout in the opening inning.

However, Florence hit three homers to cap their 4-1 win. Jordan Brower, Chad Sedio and Trevor Craport all hit long balls.

Tyler Thornton (4-7) suffered the loss. He went the distance, pitching six innings and allowing all four runs. Jared Cheek (6-1) earned the win with five innings of one-run ball.
