Martinez leads the charge as Bolts sweep Schaumburg

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Brynn Martinez collected four hits and four RBIs and led the ThunderBolts to their fourth straight win as they knocked off Schaumburg 7-4 at Wintrust Field Sunday night.

For the third straight game, the ThunderBolts (29-36) struck early, getting an RBI single from Dan Robinson in the top of the first. They doubled the lead to 2-0 on a Zac Taylor solo home run in the second.

Schaumburg (34-31) came back to tie the score with a pair of runs in the third. Chase Dawson hit an RBI triple and scored on a Matt Bottcher single.

Rob Weissheier led off the next inning with a home run that put the ThunderBolts back in the lead and Martinez hit his first homer of the year leading off the fifth. The two longballs made the score 4-2.

For the second time, the Boomers were able to come from behind to even the score. In the bottom of the fifth, RBI hits from Matt McGarry and Clint Hardy made it 4-4. They threatened to take the lead, loading the bases with two outs, but Ryan Hare came out of the bullpen and got out of the jam.

The Bolts took the lead for good in the sixth when John Sechen hit an infield single and Martinez hip a popup to right field. Alec Craig lost the ball in the lights and it dropped for an RBI double.

Martinez put the game away with his fourth hit, a two-run single in the eighth.

Hare (1-0) ended up going 3.1 shutout innings for his first professional win. Ryan Middendorf (7-4) took the loss, allowing five runs in 5.2 innings.

The ThunderBolts take two days off before traveling to Florence for a Wednesday doubleheader against the Y’alls. Miguel Ausua (6-3, 3.96) and Tyler Thornton (4-6, 2.82) are scheduled to start the twin bill with game one starting at 4:07.
