ThunderBolts rally in ninth for third straight win

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Payton Robertson’s RBI single in the top of the ninth inning broke a 5-5 tie and helped the ThunderBolts capture their second straight game against Schaumburg, 7-5 at Wintrust Field Saturday night.

Dan Robinson started the ThunderBolts (28-36) out with a lead when he hit a solo home run to lead off the second inning. The Bolts kept the foot on the gas pedal, adding two more in the inning. Zach Racusin singled and scored on a Peyton Isaacson base hit and Jack Strunc was hit by a pitch, scoring on a Robertson single.

Schaumburg (34-30) struck right back with four in the bottom of the inning. Alec Craig hit a two-out RBI triple and Matt McGarry came up next with a two-run homer.

The back-and-forth game saw the ThunderBolts reclaim the lead in the fifth, when Zac Taylor hit a solo homer. Brynn Martinez then walked, stole second and came home and Jairus Richards singled him home.

For the second time, the Boomers came right back with a run. McGarry’s RBI single in the bottom of the fifth made the score 5-5.
