Bolts Split Doubleheader

JOLIET, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts split a doubleheader with the Joliet Slammers on Wednesday night at DuPage Medical Group Field. The Bolts won 2-0 in game one, but lost game two, 7-4.

In game one, the Bolts (22-33) completed their second shutout in the past week. Jake Fisher, Layne Schnitz-Paxton, Stetson Woods and Danny Zardon combined to blank the Slammers (20-35). Schnitz-Paxton (2-1) earned the win with two no-hit innings of relief.

The offense backed the pitching staff with Jack Strunc’s RBI double in the fourth and Zach Racusin’s RBI double in the sixth.

In game two, the Slammers jumped out to the early lead. In the first, two Bolts errors led to three runs for Joliet. One scored on an error by third baseman Hunter Wells. Two more scored on a single by Patrick Causa.

The Bolts battled back to take the lead in their next at bat. A two-run triple from Brynn Martinez made it a one-run game. Jairus Richards pushed the Bolts ahead with a two-run single.

A two-run fourth put the Slammers ahead for good. Dave Mathews tied the game with an RBI single before Braxton Davidson walked with the bases loaded to make it 5-4. In the fifth, Tyler Depreta-Johnson added insurance with an RBI knock.  Mathews drove in a run with a ground out.

Kaleb Honea (1-0) earned the win for Joliet with 3.1 shutout innings. Neil Abbatiello (1-4) allowed the go-ahead run and suffered the loss.
