Y’alls Pull Away from Bolts in Seesaw Game

FLORENCE, KY – The Windy City ThunderBolts lost a back-and-forth game, 8-4, against the Florence Y’alls on Friday night. The Bolts (17-27) faced three tie scores, but Florence (29-16) pulled away in the final third of the game.

The Bolts grabbed the early lead in the first inning. Jairus Richards drove in Zach Racusin on an RBI groundout. Errors cost the Bolts their lead in the bottom of the second. The game evened up when catcher John Sechen threw a ball into left field on an attempted base stealer.

Florence grabbed a brief 2-1 advantage in the fourth on Jackson Pritchard’s sacrifice fly. The Bolts hit back with consecutive knocks to begin the fifth. Jack Strunc doubled and Brynn Martinez tied the game, 2-2, with a single.

It was Groundhog Day in the Florence fifth. A double led to a sacrifice fly, this one from Luis Pintor. This time, the Bolts response came from Rob Calabrese, who hit his 6th homer of the year to level the score, 3-3.

After Calabrese’s homer, it was all Y’alls. Mostly, it was all Jordan Brower. The Florence designated hitter drove home a run with a double in a two-run seventh. He followed with a two-run homer in a three-run eighth.

Rob Weissheier extended his hitting streak to nine games with an RBI single in the ninth.

Jake Fisher (2-5) suffered the loss for the Bolts, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing five runs (four earned). Casey Grimm (2-0) earned the win with seven innings of three-run ball.

The Bolts look to even the series in the middle game Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5:36 CT. For live coverage, fans can find video and audio links at wcthunderbolts.com.
