Bolts Bash Early, Beat Boomers

SCHAUMBURG, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts beat the Schaumburg Boomers 8-6 in the opening game of a three-game series on Tuesday night at Wintrust Field. The Bolts snapped a five-game losing streak with the win.

The Bolts (12-23) led wire-to-wire after the fourth batter of the game. Peyton Isaacson blasted his second homer of the year, a two-run shot to put the Bolts ahead in the first. Jake Hirabayashi propelled the Bolts to a three-run advantage with a second inning sacrifice fly. A three-run third extended the advantage to 6-0 with RBI from Rob Calabrese, Jairus Richards and Jack Strunc.

The Boomers cut the lead in half with a three-run third, highlighted by Chase Dawson’s two-run single. Brynn Martinez added a run for the Bolts with a run-scoring single in the fourth.

The Boomers inched within a run in the eighth. Quincy Nieporte’s RBI double and Nick Ames’ RBI ground out equated to a 7-6 Bolts lead.

The Bolts got some much-needed insurance in the ninth inning on a Jairus Richards sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the ninth, Danny Zardon locked down his first save with a 1-2-3 frame.

Zardon’s save earned the win for Miguel Ausua (3-1), who threw five innings, gave up three runs on five hits. Ryan Middendorf (3-3) took the loss, allowing seven runs over five innings.
