AVON, OH – The Windy City ThunderBolts were swept by the Lake Erie Crushers, dropping game three of the series 5-2 on Sunday night at Mercy Health Stadium. The Bolts (11-23) have lost five straight games and all six in the season series with Lake Erie. A pair of solo home runs got the scoring started for Lake Erie (19-16). Steve Passatempo took one deep to right in the second inning. General MacArthur smacked the first pitch of the third inning over the left field fence. The Bolts clawed back in the fifth. The bottom three in the order – Jack Strunc, Brynn Martinez and Jake Hirabayashi – all reached to begin the inning. Zach Racusin cut the deficit in half with an RBI single. The next hitter, Dan Robinson, tied the game on a sacrifice fly. The Crushers broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth. A two-out, two-run single from Eric Callahan pushed Lake Erie ahead for good. Zach Gray made the margin three runs in the eighth when he singled in a run. The Bolts had the tying run in the on-deck circle when the game ended but stranded their 11th runner of the game. Jake Fisher (2-3) suffered the loss. He threw six innings of four-run ball, surrendering eight hits to go with five strikeouts and one walk. Ean Walda (2-0) was the winning pitcher for Lake Erie. He gave up the tying runs, but earned the win by virtue of being in the game when Callahan broke the tie in the sixth. The Bolts have an off day Monday before starting a three-game series in Schaumburg on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 CT.
