Bolts win wild game in Washington

Bolts 10 Things 7

WASHINGTON, PA – Zach Rheams hit a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth to force extra innings and Tyler Alamo hit a two-out homer in the tenth to give the ThunderBolts to a 10-7 win over the Washington Wild Things at Wild Things Park Sunday night.

Michael Mateja started the game off with a bang as he led off with a home run but that was the last lead the Bolts (36-48) held until the tenth inning.

Washington (34-52) plated three in the bottom of the first to take the lead, one they extended in the third. After Tanner Gardner tripled and Chase Cockrell hit a sacrifice fly to get the ThunderBolts back on the board, Cody Erickson hit an RBI double and Ryan Cox scored him on a single to make it 5-2.

The Bolts kept fighting, scoring runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth. Mateja hit an RBI single and Alamo hit a solo homer but Shaine Hughes’ RBI single for Washington in the fourth inning kept the Wild Things ahead 6-4.

In the sixth, with two on base, Gardner singled to cu the deficit to one. Brynn Martinez appeared to score the tying run but after it was ruled that he didn’t touch home plate, the score remained 6-5.

That was still the score in the ninth with two outs, when Micah Coffey and Tyler Straub extended the game with back-to-back singles. Rheams followed with an RBI base hit, sending the game to the tenth.

With two on and two out in the tenth, Alamo went deep for the second time, blasting the ThunderBolts to a 9-6 lead. Tyler Straub’s RBI triple later in the inning made it 10-6.

Colby Blueberg (4-1) pitched the final two innings and got the win despite allowing a Hector Roa home run in the bottom of the tenth. Matt Marsili (0-1) pitched the tenth for Washington and took the loss.

After an off Monday, the ThunderBolts play two at Lake Erie on Tuesday. Game one, starting at 4:05 will pick up a suspended game with no score in the third inning. Tyler Thornton (6-2, 2.58) gets the game two call for Windy City. Both games from Sprenger Stadium can be heard through wthunderbolts.com.
