Bolts' bats shut down in 3-0 loss

Bums 3 Bolts 0

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Reinaldo Lopez threw a complete game shutout as the ThunderBolts dropped the rubber match of their series to the Traverse City Beach Bums 3-0 at Wuerfel Park Sunday evening.

The Beach Bums (11-15) jumped on Windy City starter Paddy Ledet early with two runs in the first inning. Isaac Benard walked and scored on Will Kengor’s double. Steve Lohr singled home Kengor to make it 2-0.

Ledet settled in after the first, allowing only one more run when Benard singled in the fifth inning and Kengor hit another RBI double.

The ThunderBolts (10-15) had a hit in three of the first four innings against Lopez but hit into a double play each time. They would finish with eight hits in the game, but did not get a runner into scoring position until the eighth inning, when Ransom LaLonde and Blair Beck came up with back-to-back base hits. LaLonde made it as far as third base but was stranded there as Lopez got a pair of groundouts to end the threat.

Larry Balkwill ended up with three hits for the ThunderBolts to lead the offense and Beck had two.

Traverse City put runners at second and third with one out in the seventh but Jack Andersen pitched out of the jam as the Bolts’ bullpen threw 1.2 perfect innings.

Ledet (2-2) ended up going 6.1 innings and allowing three runs on nine hits with three strikeouts, but he took his second straight defeat. Lopez (1-2) picked up his first win of the year, scattering eight hits, all singles, while striking out five in the complete game victory.

The ThunderBolts take two days off before returning to action on Wednesday evening in Florence, Kentucky. The nine-game road trip ends with a three-game series against the Florence Freedom, starting with a doubleheader at 4:35 Wednesday. Both games can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
