ThunderBolts drop third straight

Boomers 6 Bolts 2

SCHAUMBURG, IL – The ThunderBolts fell behind the Schaumburg Boomers early on their way to a third consecutive loss. 6-2 was the final score at Boomers Stadium Wednesday night.

For Schaumburg (10-12), the first six batters of the game reached base. A caught stealing helped prevent further damage, but RBI singles for Sean Godfrey and Ty Moore made it a 2-0 Boomers lead. With the bases loaded and one out, a diving catch made by Ransom LaLonde turned into a double play and held the Boomers to two runs.

The Bolts (8-13) proceeded to load the bases with nobody out in the top of the second inning on singles from Larry Balkwill, David Oppenheim and Brandon Rawe. They got a run on a wild pitch, but Joe Hauser retired three in a row to escape trouble.

Jaramy Jacobs followed his rocky start by retiring the next six batters he faced, but the Boomers struck again in the third. Sean Godfrey walked and scored on a Ty Moore triple. Moore came home on a wild pitch.

A James Keller home run and a Collin Ferguson RBI single, both in the fourth inning, pushed the Schaumburg lead to 6-1, chasing Jacobs from the game. Jack Anderson, Austin Sweet and Devin Raftery combined to throw 4.1 innings of scoreless relief.

The ThunderBolts had baserunners in all but one inning but stranded nine men. They got back on the board in the eighth as Tyler Straub hit a single, moved to second on a Riley Krane walk and to third on a flyout. Oppenheim’s groundout scored him, but it was the last run the Bolts could muster.

Hauser (3-0) allowed one run in six innings for the win and Jacobs (0-3) allowed six runs in 3.2 innings for the loss.

Game three of the series will be played at 6:30 on Thursday night. Jake Welch (2-0, 3.38) gets the start for the Bolts. Schaumburg has not yet named a starter. The broadcast from Boomers Stadium can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
