ThunderBolts capture opener in Florence

Bolts 5 Freedom 4

FLORENCE, KY – The ThunderBolts scored three unanswered runs to overcome a 4-2 deficit and defeat the Florence Freedom in game one of a three-game series 5-4 at UC Health Stadium Tuesday night.

The Bolts (34-26) scored two runs in the first inning as the first three batters reached base. Keenyn Walker singled and Coco Johnson walked before Riley Krane doubled them both in, making the score 2-0.

Florence (38-23) came back with a run in the second. Andrew Godbold singled and later came in to score on a two-out base hit from Garrett Vail. Jordan Brower doubled in the inning but was cut down at the plate by Blair Beck to keep the Bolts ahead by one.

Two singles opened the bottom of the third for the Freedom and Collins Cuthrell followed with a three-run homer to give Florence their first lead at 4-2.

The ThunderBolts responded immediately as Kyle Wood led off the fourth with a double. He advanced to third on a Tim Zier single and scored on a Corey Bass sacrifice fly.

The game was tied in the fifth on a Larry Balkwill home run and the Bolts took the lead back in the sixth. Ransom LaLonde doubled and scored on a Walker single.

Florence threatened in the eighth, loading the bases with one out, but Scott Kuzminsky struck out Brower and got Godbold to bounce back to the mound to end the inning.

Drake Robison (2-2) allowed four runs in 5.1 innings and picked up his second straight win and Jordan Kraus (8-4) took the loss. He allowed five runs in seven innings. Brian Loconsole picked up his 22nd save with a perfect ninth.
