Windy City takes second straight in Evansville

Bolts 4 Otters 2

EVANSVILLE, IN – The ThunderBolts clinched their seventh straight series victory with a 4-2 win over the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field Wednesday night.

The ThunderBolts (16-7) rode their strong first inning to the win as they batted around and scored three runs right off the bat. Keenyn Walker and Coco Johnson singled to put men at the corners with no outs. When Johnson stole second base, Dane Phillips’ throw sailed into center field, allowing Walker to score the game’s first run. Tim Zier followed with an RBI single and the Bolts led 2-0 just three batters into the game. After two walks, the Bolts loaded the bases with two outs in the inning and Ransom LaLonde’s single scored Zier to make it 3-0.

Evansville (10-14) brought themselves back into the game with a two-run fourth inning. Alejandro Segovia walked and Chris Riopedre singled, putting runners at first and second with two outs. Back-to-back RBI singles for Chris Sweeney and Xyruse Martinez tightened the ThunderBolts’ lead to 3-2.

Otters starter Hasten Freeman held back the ThunderBolts attack after the first inning, but they added a little insurance against the Evansville bullpen in the seventh as Zier was hit by a pitch and Blair Beck doubled him home to make the score 4-2.

Evansville was unable to mount a rally against the ThunderBolts’ bullpen as Kevin Lenik, Scott Kuzminsky and Brian Loconsole each pitched a scoreless inning to support starter Brady Muller.

Muller (4-1) earned the win, allowing two runs in six innings. Loconsole picked up his league-leading tenth save. Freeman (0-1) lasted five innings and took the loss.

The Bolts look for the sweep on Wednesday night in Evansville. Kyle Von Ruden (1-1, 2.10) will get the start in game three against the Otters’ Max Duval (2-1, 3.52). First pitch from Bosse Field is scheduled for 6:35 and the broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
