Windy City comes from behind for sixth straight series win

SCHAUMBURG, IL – The ThunderBolts sored six unanswered runs to erase a 6-2 deficit and take their second straight decision from the Schaumburg Boomers 8-6 at Boomers Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Coco Johnson put the ThunderBolts (14-7) on the board in the third inning with his first home run of the season, making the score 2-0.

Schaumburg (14-7) came right back with six in the bottom of the third. Cosimo Canella hit a solo home run to get it started. James Keller singled and Jack Parenty reached on an error and both men scored on a Kyle Ruchim double to put the Boomers ahead 3-2. Zach Weigel scored Ruchim with a single and Seth Spivey brought home Weigel on a triple. Spivey capped the scoring when he came home on a groundout.

Johnson struck again for the ThunderBolts as they began their comeback in the fourth. With two on and two out, he knocked a single out to center field to pick up his third and fourth RBIs of the game.

The score remained 6-4 until the seventh inning, when Kyle Wood walked and Blair Beck doubled. One run scored on Tim Zier’s single and David Kerian put the Bolts ahead for good with a two-run double.

They added an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Ransom LaLonde doubled and scored on a Conor Sullivan single.

Clay Chapman allowed six runs (four earned) over five innings and did not factor in the decision; Cody Mincey (1-0) got the win after striking out the only batter he faced.

Derek DeYoung (0-1) allowed the three seventh-inning runs for Schaumburg and took the loss.

The ThunderBolts take Monday off before continuing their 13-game road trip on Tuesday night at Evansville’s Bosse Field. Zac Westcott (3-0, 1.67) will get the start in game one of the three-game set with the Otters. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 and the broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
