ThunderBolts win in second straight comeback

Bolts 3 Boomers 2

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts came from behind for the second straight day to capture game two from the Schaumburg Boomers 3-2 at Standard Bank Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

As they did on Tuesday, the Boomers (3-2) jumped out to an early lead. They got on the board in the first inning when, with two outs, David Harris doubled and Seth Spivey singled him home.

Schaumburg made the score 2-0 in the third inning as Harris again doubled. This time, Kenny Towns knocked him in with a base hit.

The ThunderBolts (3-2) scored their first run in the bottom of the third. Blair Beck hit a leadoff triple and scored when Coco Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to left.

Larry Balkwill knotted the score at two with a solo home run to leadoff the fifth. It was his first homer of the year.

Jake Fisher departed after six strong innings for the Bolts. He allowed two runs and struck out four. Kevin Lenik, Scott Kuzminsky and Brian Loconsole each threw a scoreless inning out of the ThunderBolts’ bullpen.

Windy City got its first lead in the seventh inning. Will Krug and Balkwill each walked and moved ahead on a sacrifice bunt. Beck’s sacrifice fly brought home Krug to make the score 3-2. The ThunderBolts would finish with just three hits in the game, all for extra bases, but hold on for the win.

Lenik (1-0) picked up his second pro win, pitching a perfect seventh. Austin Kerr (1-1) allowed the winning run to score and took the loss for Schaumburg. Loconsole earned his third save of the year.

The ThunderBolts will look to sweep the Boomers with their third straight day game on Thursday morning. Clay Chapman (0-0, 1.80) will start for the Bolts against Schaumburg’s Gunnar Kines (1-0, 0.00) on another School Day at Standard Bank Stadium, presented by Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers. First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 and fans not in attendance can hear the broadcast on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
