Bolts 7 Boomers 1

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the first four innings and cruised to a 7-1 win over the Schaumburg Boomers at Standard Bank Stadium Saturday night. The win was the Bolts’ third in a row.

Coco Johnson got the scoring started for Windy City (39-49) in the first inning, hitting his sixth home run of the year, a solo shot. Another run crossed the plate in the second as Corey Bass led off with a double. He would score when Taylor Smart reached on an error.

The Bolts added three more runs in the third when the first four batters picked up hits. Tim Zier singled and stole second and Cody Keefer singled him in. Johnson singled and stole second and Kyle Wood doubled him in. Wood scored on a Ransom LaLonde two-out base hit that made the score 5-0.

They put it away with two more runs in the fourth. With two outs, they loaded the bases on two singles and a catcher’s interference. Wood picked up his second and third RBIs of the night with a two-run bloop single.

Zac Westcott made his first start of the year for Windy City and did not allow a runner past first base in the first six innings. At one point, he retired nine consecutive batters.

The Boomers (37-52) finally go a run across with back-to-back two-out hits in the seventh. Tobias Moreno doubled and James Keller singled him in.

Westcott (1-0) lasted seven innings in his first start since college, allowing six hits and striking out five. Andrew Lowe and Chris Chigas finished it off with a scoreless inning each.

Scott Schultz (4-7) allowed seven runs (four earned) in five innings and took the loss.
