ThunderBolts lose game two to Schaumburg

CRESTWOOD, IL – Seth Webster struck out 11 over eight innings as the ThunderBolts dropped their second straight game to the Schaumburg Boomers 6-2 at Standard Bank Stadium Saturday night.

The Boomers (12-14) struck first with a run in the second. Paul Kronenfeld singled and scored on an Ino Patron sacrifice fly.

They added to their lead with two runs in the fourth after two outs had been recorded. Mikal Hill singled and scored on a Patron triple. James Keller singled home Patron to make it 3-0.

The ThunderBolts (17-9), who had just one hits through four innings, broke through in the fifth. Corey Bass and Cody Keefer hit back-to-back doubles with Keefer’s driving in Bass. Taylor Smart singled to score Keefer and make the score 3-2.

Schaumburg again distanced themselves, though. They added a sun in the sixth on a Patron RBI single and a Jordan Dean base hit in the seventh plated another to put the Boomers ahead 5-2.

The ThunderBolts loaded the bases in the eighth as Coco Johnson reached on a bunt single and Ransom LaLonde and Blair Beck each drew a walk. Webster struck out Bass, though, to end the threat.

Dean picked up another RBI single in the ninth to pad the Schaumburg lead and despite a Keefer single in the ninth, his fourth hit of the day, the Bolts could not mount another rally.

Webster (3-1) went eight innings for the win and Ryan Strombom gave up three runs in four innings for the loss.

The ThunderBolts will try to avoid a Schaumburg sweep on Sunday afternoon. Mitchell Cody (0-0, 2.89) will take the mound for the Bolts against Schaumburg’s Scott Schultz (1-1, 4.03). It is Standard Bank Family Day and fans will be invited on the field to play catch and get autographs after the game. First pitch from Standard Bank Stadium is scheduled for 2:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
