ThunderBolts suffer shutout defeat at Schaumburg

Boomers 2 Bolts 0

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Eddie Cody shut the ThunderBolts out on just two hits over seven innings as the Schaumburg Boomers defeated the Bolts 2-0 at Boomers Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Austin Wright started for the ThunderBolts (30-43) and opened well, retiring the first eight men he faced. The Boomers (31-43) got their first baserunner in the bottom of the third when Cam Sherrer came up with a two-out single. That was followed by a base hit for Ken Kirshner and an RBI single for Kyle Ruchim.

The Boomers made their lead 2-0 on back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the fourth. Willi Martin’s hit drove in Spencer Mahoney.

Mike Torres hit a first inning single for the ThunderBolts but was left at first base. Despite two other baserunners early in the game, they didn’t pick up another safe hit until Max White led off the seventh with a double. White advanced to third on a groundout but was stranded there. He was the only man to reach scoring position in the game for Windy City.

Eddie Cody (8-3) struck out three and did not walk a batter in his seven innings for the win. The Bolts had one baserunner on a ninth inning walk issued by Dexter Price but Price got the next hitter, White, to ground into a game-ending double play as he picked up his fourth save.

Wright (4-9) took the loss for the ThunderBolts, going six innings and allowing the two runs on six hits. James Ferguson pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The ThunderBolts and Boomers will wrap up their series in Schaumburg on Thursday night. Zak Wasserman (3-4, 5.53) will take the hill for Windy City in game three against the Boomers’ Peter Gehle (2-4, 5.59). First pitch from Boomers Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
