Slammers down Bolts in series opener07/24/2015 9:16 PM
JOLIET, IL – The Joliet Slammers scored seven runs in the sixth inning to erase a 2-run deficit and defeat the ThunderBolts 7-2 at Silver Cross Field Friday night. Jake Fisher got the start for the ThunderBolts and pitched well through the first five innings, allowing just three baserunners on two walks and a single. The Bolts had many more offensive chances than the Slammers did early in the game. Their leadoff man reached base in four of the first five innings but they were unable to score. In the third, they loaded the bases with one out but Michael Carden pitched out of it. Windy City broke through in the top of the sixth when Max White led off with a double. He was bunted to third by Jacob Tanis and scored on an error. Tanis would come in to make it 2-0 on Tyler Clark’s double. The Slammers answered in a big way in the bottom of the inning. The first seven batters reached base Alfredo Rodriguez doubling home the first run. Mike Garza’s two-run single gave Joliet their first lead and chased Fisher from the game. It made no difference to the Slammers who continued their rally with a two-run single for Jack Cleary. After Hunter Ridge walked, Phill Bates’s two-run single made it 7-2. The Bolts outhit the Slammers 10-9 in the game and had 15 baserunners in all but they left nine men on base. Kevin McNorton (4-2) pitched 3.1 shutout innings in relief for the win and Fisher (2-6) took the loss, allowing four runs in five innings. The ThunderBolts and Slammers will continue their series on Saturday night. Game two will be played at 6:05 at Silver Cross Field. Austin Wright (2-8, 4.70) is scheduled to start for the Bolts against Joliet’s Hunter Ackerman (1-3, 7.46). The game’s broadcast can be heard on wcthunderbolts.com. |
