ThunderBolts play powerball to win sixth in a row

Bolts 5 Grizzlies 2

CRESTWOOD, IL – Danny Jimenez threw seven innings of one-run ball and the ThunderBolts won their sixth straight game, despite just four hits, 5-2 over the Gateway Grizzlies at Standard Bank Stadium Saturday night.

Jacob Tanis began the scoring for the ThunderBolts (11-13). His third home run of the year was a second-inning solo shot to give the Bolts a 1-0 lead.

That was the only hit Gateway starter Tyler Thompson gave up, but he was chased in the fourth inning when his control got the better of him. Mike Torres, Jonathan Garcia and Austin Gallagher each walked to load the bases before Tanis brought home a run on an error. With the bases loaded again, Max White lined a two-run double to left, putting the ThunderBolts ahead 4-0.

The Grizzlies (7-19) scored their only runs on solo homers. Grant Buckner took Jimenez deep in the fifth, the only run Jimenez would allow. The other Gateway home run belonged to Tyler Tewell against former Grizzlie Chris DeBoo in the eighth.

Garcia hit the ThunderBolts’ second home run, a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth to finish Windy City’s scoring. Of the Bolts’ four total hits, two were home runs and two were doubles.

Jimenez (2-1) picked up the win while Thompson (1-3) took the loss. Tommy Nance worked a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts for his first career save.

The ThunderBolts will wrap up their eight-game homestand on Sunday with game three against the Grizzlies. Travis Tingle (1-4, 2.41) will start the game for the Bolts against Gateway’s Kevin Sweeney (0-1, 4.50). It is Standard Bank Family Day at Standard Bank Stadium. Fans can get autographs from players and play catch on the outfield after the game. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 and fans not in attendance can hear the broadcast on WXAV 88.3-FM and wxav.com.
