ThunderBolts snap losing streak with 5-4 win

Bolts 5 Boomers 4

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts hit a pair of home runs and snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Schaumburg Boomers at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday evening.

The Boomers took their first and only lead just two pitches into the game, when Alexi Colon hit his tenth home run of the year, but the ThunderBolts answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Mike Torres and Ryan Soares singled in front of Max White, who homered to centerfield for a 3-1 lead.

Schaumburg retaliated with a two-out run in the second. Gerard Hall tripled and Mike Valadez followed with an RBI single, making it 3-2.

The Bolts got their fourth run on a Garrett Carey RBI single in the third. He drove in Ryan Soares, who had singled earlier in the inning.

The Boomers again responded quickly, getting four straight baserunners to start the fourth. Tony Delmonico scored when Ty Nelson reached on an error to make it a one-run game again. The following batter was Gerard Hall, who singled, but Mark Nelson was thrown out at the plate trying to tie the score by White.

The final two runs came on solo homers. One for Andrew Brauer of Windy City and one for Delmonico of Schaumburg. The Boomers got two men on base in the ninth, but Reese McGraw got the final four outs for the save.

Eli Anderson (2-8) pitched a career-long 7.2 innings, allowing four runs, for the win. Seth Webster (7-5) gave up five runs on a career-high 11 hits in six innings for the loss.

The ThunderBolts begin their final series of the year against the Traverse City Beach Bums on Tuesday night at Standard Bank Stadium.
