Bolts lose to Greys 7-2

 

CRESTWOOD, IL – Zach Tanner hit a grand slam in the ninth inning for the Frontier Greys Saturday night, cementing their 7-2 win over the ThunderBolts at Standard Bank Stadium.

The ThunderBolts fell behind in the first inning for the fifth straight night, but were quick to respond. For the Greys, Jon Dziomba walked and scored on a Joe Rapp double. The Bolts answered with two in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Michael Torres walked in front of Kyle Robinson, who clubbed his 13th home run of the year, making the score 2-1.

The Greys tied the score three innings later. With two outs in the fourth, Chase Tucker singled and Dziomba doubled him home. Dziomba tried to score on a Cameron Monger single, but was thrown out at the plate.

The Greys took the lead for good in the sixth. Michael Vaughn reached on an infield single and Tucker doubled to score Vaughn and make the score 3-2.

It was still 3-2 into the ninth, when the Greys loaded the bases on two walks and an error. With two outs, Tanner worked the count full against Jessie Snodgrass and homered on the ninth pitch to put the game out of reach at 7-2.

Lamarre Rey (3-5) earned the win, going five innings and allowing two runs with a career-high six strikeouts. Josh Spence (1-8) took the loss. He gave up three runs in 5.2 innings.

The rubber match between the ThunderBolts and the Greys will be played on Sunday evening. Hein Robb (0-2, 7.27) will get the start for the Bolts against Keith Picht (2-7, 6.93) of the Greys. Sunday is Village of Crestwood Night as well as Standard Bank Family Day. Fans will get the opportunity to play in the outfield after the game, followed by another fireworks show. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 and fans not in attendance can hear the broadcast on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
