ThunderBolts fall to Washington 10-2

Things 10 Bolts 2

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts clinched their first losing season since 2006 Wednesday night, dropping their second straight contest to the Washington Wild Things 10-2 at Standard Bank Stadium.

For the second straight night, Washington scored in the first inning, when they tallied five hits. Carter Bell and Garrett Rau each picked up RBIs. They tacked three more runs on in the third in a rally begun by a leadoff walk. Bell reached on an error, which scored Will Beckwith. Bell would cross the plate on a Garrett Rau fielder’s choice. Cole Martin doubled home Rau to make the score 5-0.

The ThunderBolts got on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring a two out-run. Andrew Brauer singled and scored all the way from first on a Mike Torres single.

Washington quickly responded with a Scott Kalamar triple and a Ryan Kresky sacrifice fly. Kresky doubled in the sixth and Beckwith singled him in to put the Wild Things ahead 7-1.

The ThunderBolts’ final run came in the seventh. Max White and Tony Viger hit back-to-back singles and Garrett Carey hit a sacrifice fly.

Washington would put the game away in the eighth, scoring three runs on four hits. Beckwith’s two-run double was the big hit of the inning.

Scott Dunn (7-3) allowed two runs in seven innings for the win and Daniel Cropper (6-7) struck out a career-high eight, but gave up six runs in five innings for the loss.
