ThunderBolts fall in bid for sweep

ROCKFORD, IL –The Rockford Aviators took the finale of a three-game series from the ThunderBolts, coming out of a pitchers’ duel with a 3-2 win at Aviators Stadium Tuesday night.

The Aviators struck first when they scored a run on three hits in the first. Brian Bistagne, Dusty Robinson and Kenny Bryant all had singles with Bryant picking up the RBI.

Starting pitching dominated from there as Jake Fisher allowed just two hits over the next five innings and Kyle Hassna allowed only two baserunners through the first five innings.

The ThunderBolts finally tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. Max White led off with a single and moved all the way to third when Andrew Brauer reached on an error. Mike McGuckin grounded into a double play that scored White from third to make the score 1-1.

The Aviators broke the tie just one inning later. Ryan Breen reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Tyger Pederson followed with an RBI single to put his team up 2-1.

The Aviators added a run for insurance in the eighth when Dusty Robinson doubled home Edgar Corcino, who had walked.

That would prove to be a big insurance run as the Bolts managed just one in the ninth. Mike McGuckin singled and advanced to third on a Garrett Carey single and an error. He would score on Kyle Robinson’s groundout. Gerardo Sanchez struck out Ryan McIntyre to end the game with Carey at second base.

Hassna (1-2) earned the win, going eight innings and allowing just an unearned run. Fisher (4-7) took the loss, allowing three runs in 7.1 innings. Sanchez earned his 15th save.

Mike Torres did not appear in the game for the ThunderBolts, ending his league-record consecutive games played streak at 339.

The ThunderBolts will continue their six-game roadtrip on Wednesday, when they make their only trip to Lake Erie this season to take on the Crushers. Travis Tingle (6-3, 4.28) will get the start in game one of the three-game series. First pitch from All Pro Freight Stadium is scheduled for 6:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
