ThunderBolts thump Freedom 8-406/17/2014 9:40 PM
CRESTWOOD, IL – After falling behind early 3-1, the ThunderBolts scored seven unanswered runs and defeated the visiting Florence Freedom 8-4 at Standard Bank Stadium Tuesday night. The ThunderBolts took a 1-0 lead in the first, when Kyle Robinson’s sacrifice fly brought home Evan Button, who had doubled. The Freedom quickly stole the advantage with three two-out runs in the second. Caleb Bryson had doubled but still stood at third with two outs when consecutive hits from Ben Kline, Bobby Joe Tannehill and Cole Miles made the score 3-1 Florence. The Bolts responded in the third. Mike Torres walked, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. When catcher Joe Staley threw wildly to third base, Torres scored. Robinson followed with his third home run of the last two games, tying the score. The following inning, the ThunderBolts took the lead for good. Andrew Brauer singled and stole second before Max White singled him in. White scored on a Torres double. They added three runs in the sixth against the Florence bullpen. White and Ty Stetson led off with back-to-back singles. Button reached on a fielder’s choice and a wild relay throw allowed White to score. Torres’s second RBI double scored Button and Robinson knocked in Torres for his third RBI of the night, making it 8-3. Jake Fisher pitched into the eighth before the Freedom got to him again. Staley reached on an error and later came in on a Kline two-out double off of Jessie Snodgrass to make the final score 8-4. Fisher (2-4) allowed three earned runs in 7.2 innings for the win and Casey Henn (2-2) gave up five runs in a career-low four innings for the loss. The ThunderBolts and Freedom will meet under the sun on Wednesday for game two. Eli Anderson (0-2, 8.00) will start for the Bolts against Florence’s Peter Gehle (1-1, 3.06).
