CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts scored five runs in the second inning and did not let up on their way to a 10-3 win over the Gateway Grizzlies at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Grizzlies scored in the first inning for the third straight day, taking an early 2-0 lead. Landon Hernandez’s two-run single scored Jonathan Johnson and Tommy Richards, who had each singled. The Grizzlies then loaded the bases, but Daniel Cropper did not allow any more runs. The ThunderBolts evened the score and then went ahead in the second. Matt Scioscia, Andrew Brauer and Max White hit consecutive singles to begin the inning with Scioscia scoring on White’s. After a caught stealing, Ty Stetson walked and Mike Torres’s bunt scored Brauer from third. Ryan Soares walked and Kyle Robinson singled, scoring Stetson. Soares came in to score on a wild pitch and when Landon Hernandez’s toss back to the plate was wild, Robinson scored as well. The Bolts added solo runs in each of the next two innings. In the second, Brauer walked and stole second in front of a Stetson RBI single. In the third, Torres walked and later scored on Robinson’s third hit of the game. They made it 9-2 in the fifth with two more runs. After a White double and two walks, Soares was hit by a pitch to bring in a run and Robinson’s fourth hit scored another. The ThunderBolts scored their final run in the sixth on a Jon Mestas sacrifice fly that scored Scioscia, who had singled earlier in the inning. The Grizzlies would wrap up the scoring in the seventh. They got an RBI groundout from Richard Seigel that scored Niko Vasquez, who had singled. Cropper (2-3) gave up two runs in five innings for the win and Dejai Oliver (2-3) allowed six runs in three innings for the loss. After two days off, the ThunderBolts will begin a brief two-game roadtrip on Wednesday against the Florence Freedom. Jake Fisher (1-3, 6.56) will pitch the opener for Windy City. First pitch from UC Health Stadium is scheduled for 5:35 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
