CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts improved to 5-0 for the first time in team history Wednesday morning when they defeated the Lake Erie Crushers 4-2 at Standard Bank Stadium. The Bolts got the scoring started in the second inning when Kyle Robinson singled and eventually crossed the plate on a Matt Scioscia groundout. The Crushers quickly tied it up the next inning, taking just two pitches to score a run. Juan Sanchez swung at Victor Larez’s first offering and hit it for a double and one pitch later, Trevor Stevens singled him in. Windy City would take the lead for good in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs on four hits. Nick Latta, Mike Torres and Ryan Soares each singled to load the bases before Ryan McIntyre’s base hit scored two and made the score 3-1. The Crushers would get one back in the fourth without a hit. Vincent Mejia walked and eventually scored on a passed ball, but the Crushers would not score again. The ThunderBolts made it 4-2 in the fifth on a Kyle Robinson RBI double. He scored Torres, who had walked. The Crushers threatened in the seventh, loading the bases against James Ferguson, but Jessie Snodgrass struck out Mejia to get out of the jam. Overall, Lake Erie left ten men on base. The ThunderBolts left eight. Ferguson (1-0) pitched 2.2 shutout innings in his pro debut to earn the win and Mickey Jannis (0-1) allowed four runs in four innings to take the loss. The ThunderBolts will go for their second straight sweep on Thursday morning when Daniel Cropper (1-0, 1.42) takes the hill to be opposed by Lake Erie’s Connor Whalen (0-0, 1.80).
