WASHINGTON, PA – The ThunderBolts sent 13 men to the plate in a nine-run ninth inning, breaking open a 2-2 tie on their way to an 11-4 victory over the Washington Wild Things at CONSOL Energy Park Saturday night. The Bolts took a lead in the top of the third inning when Doug Joyce walked and Evan Button brought him home on his fifth home run of the year. The score remained 2-0 until the sixth as Washington starter Shawn Blackwell settled in and at one point retired ten straight ThunderBolts. Markus Solbach, making his first pro start, allowed just one hit through five innings, but the Wild Things got on the board in the sixth. Tyler Hall singled in front of a Shain Stoner RBI double to make it 2-1. The Wild Things tied it up in the eighth, when C.J. Beatty singled home Scott Kalamar with two outs. Windy City broke the game open in the ninth, though. With the bases loaded and no outs, Andrew Brauer picked up an RBI single, putting the Bolts ahead 3-2. Jayce Ray’s single gave him his first professional RBI, making the score 4-2. The wheels kept turning as Doug Joyce singled home two more runs, giving the Thunderbolts a four run lead. An RBI fielder’s choice for Evan Button brought home another run before Mike Torres’s double scored two more. The scoring concluded with an RBI triple for Chase Tucker and an RBI double for Kyle Robinson. In all, seven Bolts had RBIs in the eight-hit inning. The Wild Things scored two in the bottom of the ninth to seal the final at 11-4. Reese McGraw (1-3) gave up an eighth-inning run but picked up his first career win one day after securing his first career save. Matt Phillips (3-3) took the loss. The ThunderBolts will go for five straight wins Sunday against the Wild Things. Game two will pit Matt Wickswat (4-10, 4.81) against Dan Goldstein (1-1, 4.36).
