ThunderBolts crushed in Ohio

Crushers 11 Bolts 0

AVON, OH – The Windy City ThunderBolts (17-24) managed just two hits against Matt Rein as they fell to the Lake Erie Crushers (18-21) 11-0 at All Pro Freight Stadium Tuesday night.

The Crushers got the scoring started in the second inning when Daniel Bowman doubled and Anderson Hidalgo singled him in. That was the first of five hits and six RBIs for Hidalgo in the game.

Lake Erie added two more in the third and two in the fifth. In both cases, it was Hidalgo coming up with a two-run hit.

Lake Erie put the game out of reach with a four-run sixth inning. After Juan Sanchez walked, Kevin Berard singled him to third and Max Casper’s groundout scored him. Andrew Davis walked before back-to-back RBI hits from Bowman and Hidalgo. Russ Moldenhauer’s run-scoring groundout ended the rally.

The ThunderBolts got a two-out single in the second inning from Adam Davis, but Rein retired the next 13 batters. Mike Torres finally ended that streak when he led off the seventh with a single. He moved to second when Ryan Soares reached on an error, the only time a ThunderBolt would get that far all night. The situation, though, did not result in a run.

Lake Erie’s two seventh inning runs sealed the game at 11-0.

Rein’s two-hitter was his second complete game shutout in his last three starts as he improved to 4-3. Matt Wickswat (2-6) allowed five runs in five innings, taking the loss.

The ThunderBolts and Crushers will see each other for game two at All Pro Freight Stadium on Wednesday. Daniel Cropper (4-1, 5.25) will be pitching for the Bolts against Lake Erie’s Alex Kaminsky (2-4, 5.36)). Gametime is scheduled for 6:05 CDT and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV, 88.3 FM and wxav.com
