Kenny Mathews is in his third year with the ThunderBolts and ninth as a pro in 2022. He signed with the Bolts on November 19, 2018. In 2019, he led the team in starts (20), innings (116) and strikeouts (114), going 4-9 with a 4.27 ERA. He followed that up by starting a team-high 19 games and eclipsing the century mark in innings (104.2) again in 2021, while winning eight games.
Mathews was picked in the seventh round of the 2013 Amateur Entry Draft by the Cleveland Indians and pitched in 43 games (14 starts) for them over the next four years across three levels, peaking at Class A Lake County. His ERA during that time was 3.25. He spent the next two years between the American Association and the Pacific Association, winning eight games with a 3.82 ERA.
In one year at Riverside Community College, Kenny posted a 1.23 ERA in 12 appearances and in his lone year at Cal State Fullerton, he went 6-2 with a 3.68 ERA. He had been drafted originally by the New York Mets in the 12th round of 2011 out of Diamond Bar High School in Diamond Bar, California.
