ThunderBolts drop matinee in New York

POMONA, NY – The New York Boulders hit three home runs to pull away from the ThunderBolts in the series opener, beating the Bolts 7-4 at Clover Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
Austin Dennis swung at Dante Maietta’s first pitch of the game in the bottom of the first and launched it over the left field wall to put New York (40-34) up 1-0.
The ThunderBolts (35-38) took the lead away in the third. With two outs and no one on, Liam McArthur drew a walk. Michael Sandle reached on an error and Justin Fogel picked up an RBI single to tie it up. Jared Beebe singled home Sandle and the Bolts had a 2-1 lead.
A Dennis leadoff triple in the bottom of the frame led to the Boulders’ second run, but the Bolts responded again. In the fourth, Victor Cerny doubled and scored on a Josue Urdaneta groundout.
New York’s offense kept coming. They took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth when Lee Amedee hit a solo homer and Dennis, playing in his first game back with New York this year, secured his third hit and second BRI of the game with a single that made it 4-3.
Aaron Simmons hit a two-run homer in the fifth for New York and they took advantage of three walks in the sixth to force in their final run.
The Bolts made it interesting in the seventh, loading the bases on a walk, an error and a hit by pitch. Beebe picked up his second RBI on a fielder’s choice, but despite putting the tying run on base, they couldn’t get any more.
Isaac Rhode (5-2) allowed only one earned run in six innings and picked up the win. Maietta (1-3) pitched five innings and gave up six runs, taking the loss.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Wednesday morning. Tyler Biddinger (2-2, 5.40) makes the stat for the Bolts against New York’s Emmett Bice (2-2, 7.84). First pitch from Clover Stadium is 10:00 CDT and broadcast details can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
