Bolts take series with 9-5 win

TROY, NY – The ThunderBolts racked up 18 hits as they wrapped up a 4-2 road trip with a 9-5 win over the Tri-City ValleyCats at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium Sunday night.
The ValleyCats (30-47) scored a first-inning run on a Kai Moody RBI single to take a 1-0 lead. They had chances to extend that lead but they left seven runners on base over the first four innings.
The ThunderBolts (39-39) took advantage of the door being left open, marching through with their first two runs in the top of the fourth. After the bases were loaded on two singles and a walk, Daryl Ruiz and Tony Livermore each picked up RBI singles to give the Bolts a lead that they would not relinquish.
They added two runs to the lead on a Jared Beebe two-run homer in the fifth.
Moody homered in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-2, but the Bolts had a big answer. With a runner at third and two outs in the top of the sixth, Liam McArthur, Michael Sandle, Justin Fogel and Jared Beebe came up with consecutive RBI hits to give the Bolts an 8-2 advantage.
They added one more the next frame on a Victor Cerny solo homer.
Tri-City had one last push in them, getting two runners on base in the seventh before Brayden Jobert clubbed a three-run homer, but two Windy City relievers combined to hold the ValleyCats hitless over the final 2.2 innings, securing the win.
Justin Lovell (5-4) was credited with the victory for his 1.1 scoreless innings. Brandon Peterson (0-1) took the loss for Tri-City, allowing two runs in two innings in his team debut.
The ThunderBolts return to Crestwood to begin a seven-game home stand on Tuesday night as they welcome the Ottawa Titans to town. The series opener is a $2 Ticket Tuesday at Ozinga Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 CDT. Tyler Biddinger (3-2, 5.40) will be on the hill for the Bolts.
