Bolts get walk-off win as part of doubleheader split

CRESTWOOD, Ill. – In a pair of well-pitched games, the Windy City ThunderBolts split Sunday’s doubleheader at Ozinga Field with the Evansville Otters, winning the first game 5-4 before falling 2-0 in game two.
In game one, Windy City (35-37) entered the bottom of the fourth inning trailing by one run. A two-RBI double from Daryl Ruiz and an RBI single from Liam McArthur in the bottom of the fourth gave the Bolts their first lead of the contest at 4-2.
After Evansville (42-29) tied the score with two runs in the top of the fifth, Windy City came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh with a chance to walk it off.
After McArthur led off the inning with a walk, a Justin Fogel sacrifice bunt and a Jared Beebe single got McArthur to third with just one out. Carlos Pena proceeded to hit a fly ball deep to right field to plate McArthur on a walk-off sacrifice fly.
Justin Lovell (4-4) picked up the win for the Bolts after tossing a scoreless top of the seventh. Joe Morrissey (0-1) was hit with the loss for Evansville.
In game two, the Otters got all the offense they needed in the top of the third. Evansville scored two on a Logan Brown two-RBI base hit and never relinquished the lead.
Landon Willeman (3-4) picked up the win for Evansville, pitching five scoreless frames. Tyler Wehrle (3-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs in five innings of work. Junior Cerda collected his 12th save of the season with a one-two-three bottom of the seventh.
The Bolts return to action on Tuesday for the first of three on the road against the New York Boulders. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. CDT and broadcast information is available at wcthunderbolts.com.
