ThunderBolts Tripped Up at Mississippi

PEARL, MS – The Mississippi Mud Monsters scored three late runs to deal the Windy City ThunderBolts a 5-2 loss on Saturday night at Trustmark Park.
For the fourth time in the first five games of the series, the ThunderBolts (51-44) scored first. They got a run in the top of the second when Victor Cerny singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a groundout. He scored when Tony Livermore hit a flyball that was mishandled in right field.
The Mud Monsters (37-57) responded immediately. In the bottom of the inning, Kasten Furr walked. He scored on a two-out double hit by Tevis Payne. Payne came home on a Victor Diaz single, putting Mississippi ahead 2-1.
In the sixth, Jared Beebe singled and came around on a Daryl Ruiz base hit, tying the score at two. The Bolts proceeded to load the bases with one out but couldn’t get the hit needed to take the lead.
For the second time, Mississippi answered in the bottom of the inning. Amani Larry doubled and Furr singled him in to take the lead back.
The Mud Monsters put it away with two insurance runs in the eighth on a two-run single from Travis Holt.
The final seven Windy City hitters were retired to end the game.
Sergio Sanchez (3-4) pitched a season-high seven innings and allowed two runs for the win. Ramon Rodriguez (2-4) threw well, allowing three runs in six innings, but took the loss. Dallas Woolfolk threw two innings for his first save.
The six-game series with Mississippi concludes on Sunday night. In a rematch of Tuesday’s matchup, Tyler Wehrle (6-3, 3.00) takes the mound for the ThunderBolts against Jackson Smith (4-4, 5.20) for the Mud Monsters.
