ThunderBolts Stun Mississippi with 14-Run Inning

PEARL, MS – The ThunderBolts erased a six-run deficit by scoring 14 runs in the seventh inning to shock the Mississippi Mud Monsters with a 15-9 win at Trustmark Park Thursday night.
The game belonged to Mississippi (36-56) for the first six innings. They built a big lead with a run in the third inning and four in the fourth. AJ Fritz’s two-run double created some separation as the Mud Monsters moved ahead 5-0. They added one more in the fifth to make it 6-0.
The ThunderBolts 950-43) struck for the first time in the sixth. They loaded the bases on a walk and two singles before Carlos Pena’s sacrifice fly got them on the board.
After Mississippi extended their lead back to six with a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Bolts put together their biggest inning in franchise history. The first three batters all reached on a walk, a double and a Josue Urdaneta RBI single. They proceeded to load the bases and Victor Cerny brought home two runs on a single. That started a run of nine consecutive base runners. Tony Livermore put the team in front for the first time with a two-run single and Justin Fogel extended the lead with a two-run base hit. Pena finished the inning with a two-run triple.
The Bolts finished the seventh with seven hits, seven walks and a hit batter and turned a 7-1 deficit into a 15-7 lead.
Mississippi put two more runs on the board in the seventh, getting a homer from Karell Paz to make the final score 15-9.
Matt Bohnert (2-0) secured the win in relief and Connor Langrell (1-3) took the loss.
The win moves the Bolts within one game of first place in the West Division.
The six-game series with Mississippi continues on Friday night. Tyler Biddinger (5-2, 4.30) takes the mound for the ThunderBolts against Tyler Campbell (5-5, 4.89) for the Mud Monsters.
