ThunderBolts Prevail on Wild Night, Take Series Over Titans

CRESTWOOD, Ill. – A nearly two-hour delay was not enough to slow down the ThunderBolts Thursday night, as the Bolts took down the Ottawa Titans 5-2 at Ozinga Field.
After a scoreless two and a half innings in Crestwood, a power outage joined forces with mother nature to send the game into a lengthy delay.
After an hour and 40-minute delay, Ottawa (46-34) opened the scoring against the Windy City (41-40) bullpen with a run in the top of the fourth. However, it wasn’t long before the Bolts responded.
In the bottom of the frame, a Victor Cerny little league home run plated two runs before Liam McArthur drove in another with an RBI base hit to give Windy City a 3-1 lead.
The Titans inched closer in the top of the sixth on an RBI base hit from Hunter Stokely before the Bolts restored their two-run lead in the home half of the inning.
With two outs, Justin Fogel drew a bases loaded walk to force in Josue Urdaneta from third base and give Windy City a 4-2 lead.
The Bolts added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a Jared Beebe sacrifice fly before Carter Delaney shut the door in the ninth.
ThunderBolts reliever Blaise Wilcenski (1-1) picked up his first professional win, working through two innings and allowing one run coming out of the long delay. Titans reliever Jack Kalisky (0-3) was hit with the loss after surrendering three runs on five hits in two innings. Delaney earned his fifth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
The Bolts return to action Friday for the first of three games against the Joliet Slammers. Isaac Milburn (3-3, 5.40 ERA) gets the start as he makes his return to Windy City. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT and broadcast information is available at wcthunderbolts.com.
