Bolts Score Early and Late for Fourth Straight Win

PEARL, MS – The ThunderBolts broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the eighth inning and held on for a 7-4 victory over the Mississippi Mud Monsters at Trustmark Park Friday night.
The first batter of the game, Liam McArthur, reached on an error. He advanced to third base on a Michael Sandle single and scored the first run of the game when Jared Beebe doubled him in. Sandle and Beebe both came home on a Victor Cerny base hit that made the score 3-0 in the first.
That remained the score until Mississippi (36-57) came up in the bottom of the seventh inning. Their first two batters walked and Trey Bridges drove them both in on a double. Bridges came home on a sacrifice fly, tying the score.
It didn’t take long for the Bolts to reclaim the lead. Cerny and Daryl Ruiz picked up back-to-back singles to begin the inning and Josue Urdaneta hit an RBI double to put the Bolts ahead 4-3. They added two more runs in the inning on a bases loaded hit by pitch and a passed ball.
Mississippi got one run back in the bottom of the ninth, but the Bolts put the game away with their seventh run in the ninth. Cerny singled for his fourth hit of the game. He came around on two wild pitches and a passed ball.
Tyler Biddinger threw 5.2 shutout innings for the ThunderBolts, extending his scoreless streak to 18 innings, but didn’t factor in the decision. Justin Lovell (6-4) picked up the win and Carter Delaney pitched two innings for his ninth save.
The win pulls the Bolts within one game of Florence for the final wild card spot.
The six-game series with Mississippi continues with game five on Saturday night. Ramon Rodriguez (2-3, 4.85) takes the mound for the ThunderBolts against Sergio Sanchez (2-4, 6.75) for the Mud Monsters.
