Bolts Fall Short Against Ottawa

CRESTWOOD, IL – A day after an early offensive surge helped the ThunderBolts take the series opener, Windy City fell 7-2 against the Ottawa Titans on Wednesday night at Ozinga field.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings. Ottawa (46-33) finally broke through in the top of the fourth, recording its first hit of the game by Hunter Stokely who scored on Mitsuki Fukuda’s RBI single.
In the top of the sixth, Ottawa scored twice to extend their lead with the Bolts’ Liam McArthur’s sliding catch in the outfield preventing more damage.
Ottawa continued to add to its advantage with Stokely adding a three-run double giving them a 6-0 lead in the seventh.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Bolts (40-40) bounced back. Michael Sandle doubled on a line drive to center field, scoring Liam McArthur. Justin Fogel then singled to right field, scoring Sandle and making it 7-2.
However in the top of the ninth, the Titans were able to score once more, with a home run by Stokely.
The Titan’s Michael Vilchez (5-1) earned the win after allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two over four innings. Windy City starter Ramon Rodriguez (2-2) took the loss, surrendering three runs on six hits with four strikeouts across 5.1 innings.
After dropping the middle game of the series, the ThunderBolts will look to close out their three-game set against the Ottawa Titans on a strong note Thursday night. Tyler Wehrle (4-3,3.76) will take the mound for the Bolts in the series finale. He will face Ottawa starter Evan Grills (5-0, 4.91).
