Bolts Lose Heartbreaker 6-5

The Miners scored three runs in the ninth to come from behind for a 6-5 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts Sunday night at Rent One Park in Marion, IL.
The Bolts got off to a great start scoring three runs in the first inning, two of them on a Tim Alberts triple, but they left the bases loaded. They chased Southern’s starter, Eric Barrett from the game in the second inning and extended their lead in the third. Donnie Ecker walked and eventually came around to score on a Dan Jordan groundout.
They held their 4-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth when the Miners scored on a Will Block RBI single. Dustin Williams made his pro debut for Windy City and gave up just the one run through five innings. In the sixth he got himself into some trouble and departed after a strong debut. Bradley Blanks entered with runners on second and third and did not allow another run to score.
More trouble came, though, for the Bolts’ bullpen in the seventh when once again there were runners on second and third with no outs. But once again they got out of it, with Greg Johnson and Brandon Garner combining to get the three outs. In the eighth, the Miners came to within one on a Will Block RBI triple, but after Garner loaded the bases on walks, Nick Hall came on with one out and got Jereme Milons to ground into a double play on the first pitch.
Windy City got an insurance run in the ninth on a JT Restko RBI double making it 5-3, seemingly a comfortable lead for Hall who had not given up a run all year.
The Miners, however, began the ninth with three straight singles to cut the score to 5-4. After Brendan Akashian struck out Will Block was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Jesse Wight was walked to tie the score at five. Javier Brown then singled to right to give the Miners a 6-5 victory. Hall took the loss (2-1) and Brent DeFoor picked up the win (1-0).
Windy City’s six-game road trip continues on Monday in Traverse City with the Bolts taking on the Beach Bums at 6:05 central time. Andrew Werner (2-1) gets the call for the ThunderBolts with Ryan Platt (2-0) going for Traverse City. The game can be heard on sportsjuice.com.
