THUNDERBOLTS SWEPT BY EVANSVILLE AGAIN, 9-7

May 30, 2008 - CRESTWOOD, IL – Windy City (1-7) couldn’t hold on to a 6-0 lead as the Evansville Otters (9-0) came back for the third straight game against the ThunderBolts for a 9-7 win on Thursday night at Standard Bank Stadium.

The Otters improved to 6-0 against Windy City, quite the turnaround from last season when the ‘Bolts won all six contests from Evansville.

The big rally for Evansville came in the top of the eighth inning when Josh Lowey came in on relief with a 7-2 lead. He loaded the bases with no outs and allowed a grand slam to Chris Crescenzi to make it 7-6. Desmond Jones then came in and walked the only two men he faced. It was up to Matt Petty (0-1) to try and hold the undefeated Otters at bay; however, Evansville came up with three more runs in the inning to take the lead and close out the scoring.

The ThunderBolts picked up six runs in the bottom of the fourth after chasing starter Ben Foster from the game. Jeff Michael came in and promptly gave up a solo home run to Josh Horn. Later in the inning, Gilberto Mejia came through with a two-run single and Mike Coles followed with a two-RBI double to make it 5-0. Wes Long added an RBI-double for the final tally of the frame.

Jason Lowey started for Windy City going 7.0 strong innings giving up two runs on nine hits while striking out seven. Kyle Pawelczyk (1-0)picked up the victory for the Otters, pitching 2.0 innings in relief and giving up one run on two-hits.

Windy City will host River City over the weekend in a three-game series with the first game set to begin at 7:05 on Friday. It will be LHP Mike Castrignano (1-0, 1.59) for River City against RHP Brock Hunton (0-0, 10.80) for the ‘Bolts. That game will be part of the Friday Fill-R-Up Promotion by “Budweiser.”
