Thunderbolts bats go quiet in 7-1 loss to Ottawa

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Windy City Thunderbolts managed just one run on five hits in a 7-1 loss to Ottawa at rainy Ozinga Field Wednesday afternoon.

In a game that was delayed due to weather, the Titans (3-2) jumped all over the ThunderBolts (3-3) early, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. RBI hits by AJ Wright and Clay Fisher set the tone in the top of the first. Wright and Rodrigo Orozco kept the scoring up as they added an RBI each in the following inning to build a 4-0 lead.

The lead would only grow from there. A sacrifice fly by Mitsuki Fukuda followed by a Will Zimmerman RBI single in the sixth inning gave the Titans a 6-0 lead.

Bren Spillane drove in Daryl Myers on an RBI double in the seventh inning to produce the lone run for the Thunderbolts.

Ottawa would score one last time in the eighth inning as Orozco picked up his second RBI of the game on a single.

Starting pitcher Zac Westcott was brilliant for the Titans, improving to 2-0 with the win. He lasted seven innings and gave up one run on three hits while striking out five. Neil Lang tossed two shutout innings in relief.

Despite the early struggles, Tyler Thornton (1-1) pitched five innings while giving up six runs and took his first loss of the season.

The Thunderbolts will look to win the finale of their three-game series against the Titans on Thursday morning with School Day II at Ozinga Field. It’ll be a battle of southpaws with Kenny Matthews (0-0, 7.20) making his second start for Windy City and Tyler Jandron (1-0, 12.00) on the mound for Ottawa. First Pitch is scheduled for 10:35 and the broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com
