Bolts drop series to Traverse City with 3-1 loss

CRESTWOOD, IL – The Traverse City Beach Bums scored two runs in the first inning and the ThunderBolts trailed all the way through a 3-1 loss at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday night.

Jake Fisher started for the Bolts (38-32) and threw a strong eight innings but he struggled at the start, walking the first two batters he faced. The Beach Bums (26-44) had runners at second and third with two outs when Jeremy Stidham hit a grounder down the third base line. Riley Krane made the play but his throw to first was wild. One run scored on the infield hit and the second on the error.

The ThunderBolts got their run in the third inning. Keenyn Walker singled and stole second before scoring on a Riley Krane single.

Fisher settled down and retired 11 consecutive batters before Steven Patterson broke the streak with a solo home run in the sixth, making the score 3-1.

The last scoring chance for Windy City came in the eighth as Walker walked and Coco Johnson singled to put runners at first and second with no outs. Matt Williams struck out the next two hitters and got out of the inning without allowing a run.

The Bolts outhit the Beach Bums in the game eight to six but they stranded seven men on base in the first eight innings.

Reinaldo Lopez (3-8) threw seven innings for the win, allowing just one run on seven hits. Fisher (6-7) took the loss despite giving up just two earned runs while tying his season-high with ten strikeouts. Enrique Oquendo pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save.

After a Monday off, the ThunderBolts return to play at Joliet on Tuesday night. Clay Chapman (3-4, 4.20) gets the game one start for the ThunderBolts. First pitch from Slammers Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
