ThunderBolts hold off Washington for 6-4 win

Bolts 6 Things 4

WASHINGTON, PA – The ThunderBolts took an early lead and withstood a late charge from Washington as they took game two from the Wild Things 6-4 at Wild Things Park Wednesday afternoon.

Riley Krane’s RBI single in the first inning scored Tim Zier and gave the ThunderBolts (13-27) an early lead for the second straight day. They were able to extend that lead with a pair of home run sin the second. Blair Beck and Jonathan McCray each hit solo shots to make the score 3-0.

Connor Bach started for the Bolts and pitched well through four innings, allowing only two hits and keeping the Wild Things (25-16) off the scoreboard and the Bolts added another run to their lead in the fifth. Axel Johnson led off that inning with a single and Matt Brown singled him home.

Washington got on the board with five straight two-out baserunners in the bottom of the inning. Two walks and three singles contributed to the rally with RBIs coming from Kyle Pollock and Reydel Medina.

The ThunderBolts wasted no time in answering as they loaded the bases on two singles and a walk in the sixth. With two outs, Krane came through with his third hit of the day. An error on the play allowed an extra run across, making the lead 6-2.

A two-out, two-run single from Jordan Edgerton in the bottom of the eighth inning tightened the score to 6-4 but Jack Andersen shut the door with a strikeout of James Harris. Andersen pitched the ninth as well and allowed two hits, but Pollock tried to advance to second on a flyout to centerfield and Beck threw him out to end the game.

Dan Hlad (1-0) threw 2.2 innings of relief and picked up his first pro win while Trevor Bradley (2-1) took the loss. Andersen recorded four outs for his first career save.

The series wraps up with the rubber match on Thursday evening. Paddy Ledet (2-4, 3.94) gets the start for the Bolts against Washington’s Michael Austin (0-0, 4.50) first pitch is set for 6:05 and the radio broadcast is on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
