ThunderBolts open homestead with 10-4 win

Bolts 10 Crushers 4

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back on their way to a season-high ten runs in a 10-4 win over the Lake Erie Crushers at Standard Bank Stadium Monday night.

The first four men all reached in the first inning for Windy City (9-1) as Coco Johnson led off by getting on via an error. Tim Zier doubled and Blair Beck hit a grounder to first that allowed Johnson to score when the throw came home late. Reggie Lawson scored Zier and Beck with a double.

The Bolts loaded the bases in the third inning and chased Colin Feldtman from the game. Against the new pitcher, Corey Bass singled home a run, keeping the bases loaded for Ransom LaLonde, who promptly cleared them with a three-run double.

The Crushers (6-2) scored their first run in the fifth on a Max Casper single but the ThunderBolts quickly answered with a Bass home run.

Lake Erie added two more runs the next inning on two RBI groundouts following a Parks Jordan single and Jose Barraza double. Barraza’s eighth-inning home run tightened the score to 8-4.

The Bolts put it away with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Johnson singled and Beck hit a two-run homer to make the score 10-4.

Ryan Strombom (2-0) allowed two earned runs in six innings for the win while Feldtman (0-1) gave up six runs (five earned) in 2.1 innings for the loss.

The ThunderBolts will try to extend their winning streak to nine games on Wednesday with game two against the Crushers. School Day III will be marked by a 10:35 a.m. start time at Standard Bank Stadium. Chris Chigas (1-0, 1.74) will get the start for the ThunderBolts against Lake Erie’s Fernando Gallegos (1-0, 0.00).
