ThunderBolts claim series in Washington

Bolts 3 Things 2

WASHINGTON, PA – Clay Chapman allowed just two hits over seven innings and the ThunderBolts won their second straight game over Washington 3-2 at Consol Energy Park Thursday night. The win wraps up a 3-3 road trip for the ThunderBolts.

Windy City (17-7) jumped on the scoreboard early. In the second inning, Reggie Lawson doubled and scored with two outs on a Johnny Eierman single.

Chapman retired the first eight batters he faced before walking Austin Wobrock in the third. He kept his no-hitter going until there were two outs in the sixth. Jamal Austin snuck a triple inside the left field line and scored on a Jimmy Yezzo single to tie the score at one.

The ThunderBolts reclaimed the lead in the seventh inning. After Corey Bass and Eierman drew back-to-back walks to open the inning, Cody Keefer bunted them ahead. Taylor Smart followed with a two-run single that made the score 3-1.

Washington (11-12) threatened with two outs in the ninth. Nick Ferdinand walked and scored on a Logan Uxa double but Isaac Gil got Grant Fink to fly out to center field to wrap up the win. For Gil, it was the third save of the year and the second in as many nights since joining the ThunderBolts earlier in the week.

Chapman (2-1) struck out five and walked two over a season-high seven innings in the win and Luke Wilkins (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs in 6.1 innings.

The ThunderBolts head home to start a three-game series with the Schaumburg Boomers on Friday. “Whiskey and Harmony” will perform a postgame concert for a JULIE Inc. Late Night Friday. It is also a pint glass giveaway courtesy of Lakeshore Beverage. On the field, Jake Fisher (3-0, 2.31) will take the mound for the Bolts against Schaumburg’s Josh Heddinger (1-2,3.68). First pitch from Standard Bank Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
