Press Releases

2011 Schedule Available!

After much anticipation, the 2011 Frontier League schedule has been released.  The ThunderBolts will remain in the East Division and keep the old rivalries of Kalamazoo, Lake Erie, Traverse City and Washington.  The Frontier League has asked the Oakland County Cruisers to sit out the 2011 season while they finalize the construction of their new ballpark.  Replacing the Cruisers will be a new Joliet team playing at Silver Cross Field.  This will surely be an intense rivalry heading into the 2011 season as the Windy City ThunderBolts are just a short thirty-minute drive from the new franchise in Joliet.

The ThunderBolts look to repeat as East Division Champions beginning on May 19th at Standard Bank Stadium.  The first series of the year will take place against the Lake Erie Crushers on May 19th, 20th, & 21st.   Both teams will be looking to return to championship form, as the Crushers won the 2009 Championship and the ThunderBolts won back to back Championships in 2008 and 2007.

The newest in-state rival from Joliet will visit Standard Bank Stadium for the first time for a three-game series May 24th, 25th, & 26th.  The first two games, on May 24th and 25th will be School Days and first pitch will be at 10:05 AM.  The ThunderBolts will face a tough stretch in the middle of June as they will play 15 out of 18 games on the road.  When they return home on June 25th they will face the Lake Erie Crushers in another 3 game set.  Capping that series off on June 27th will be the first of the three splash days in the 2011 season!  The final two splash days will take place on July 18th and 19th against the Joliet franchise.

The ThunderBolts will get their chance to avenge their 2010 loss in the Divisional series against the Traverse City Beach Bums when they play in the second half of July.  The Beach Bums will come to Crestwood to play six games in a nine day stretch against the Bolts.  First, facing off July 21st, 22nd, & 23rd and then again on July 27th, 28th, & 29th.  These will definitely be important games as the East Division race will be heating up.  The popular Senior Day is back again in 2011 and will be taking place on August 1st at 10:05 AM as Mike Kashirsky’s ball club will face off against the Kalamazoo Kings.

Fans will have something to look forward to at every game in 2011.  Tuesdays will be 2-for-1 Ticket Tuesday as fans will have the opportunity to buy two tickets for the price of one.  Wednesdays will feature $1 Soda & Hot Dogs all game long.  Thursdays and Fridays will not change from 2010 as fans will be able to enjoy $1 Domestic Draft Beers.  Again in 2011 following every Saturday home game will be a remarkable fireworks show.   Finally, Sundays will be Standard Bank Family Night and fans can purchase 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, and 4 sodas for only $40.

The ThunderBolts will certainly have some interesting road tests throughout the 2011 season.  Notably, they will face the Joliet team for the first time at Silver Cross Field on June 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.  It will also be a fun matchup when the ThunderBolts battle Mike Pinto’s Southern Illinois Miners over Fourth of July weekend.  The 2011 Frontier League All Star game will take place on July 13th at All Pro Freight Stadium, home of the Lake Erie Crushers.  The ThunderBolts will not get a chance to face the defending Frontier League Champions until August 2nd when they play the River City Rascals in O’Fallon, MO.  The ThunderBolts will finish the 2011 season at home for the first time since 2008, as they face the Washington Wild Things on September 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
